Screen Capture and Record Showcase

The video below is meant as a basic tour of the gradebook in Elearning for new TAs or TAs who need a review. It's intent is to supplement an larger Elearning course meant to facilitate TA's as a reference and guide for how to grade a course, the different tools they have access to, and when to seek outside help. The video takes TAs through the basic layout of the gradebook, and toggles between the two crucial screens in gradebook management. It mentions some of the symbols used in Elearning to make grading more convenient, and refers TAs to the screenshot embedded on this page.

The screenshot below was developed with the intent to supplement the above demo tour through the gradebook in Elearning. It illustrates symbols that are referenced in the demo and details further how they can be of use to the TA grading tasks.

Assignment:

 For your Screencast video:

  1. Come up with a fairly basic (I’ll let you judge) computer-based task that you would want to demonstrate as part of a lesson for your students.
  2. Using Capture, create a 1 – 3 minute demo/tutorial. You must use a microphone to add narration that helps explain what you are teaching.
  3. When you complete your video, follow the directions in the Capture Help Center to embed your video in a blog posting on your blog (so the video screen is visible). If you have trouble with embedding, use the question forum I create and we'll all support each other.
  4. In this same posting, provide a short written description on the purpose of your screencast (video) and how it would fit into or complement some larger lesson or goal for your students/target audience.

For your Screenshot:

  1.     Think of some situation using a tool on your computer where you might want to point out to someone some feature or interesting thing that could be communicated in a single image.
  2.      Use the Capture an Image feature in Capture to create a screenshot
  3.      Use the annotation tools (arrow, highlight, text tool) to make it clear what you are pointing out to the end user
  4.      Save this image to your computer and upload it in a new blog post
  5.      Similar to above, include a short explanation about the purpose of this image you created.

In Hypothetical Session: Developing a Climate Friendly Idn

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1GahSOk21o6RwwM0aAm0b_LSUlscXTjCrydiD7D_AJiQ/edit?usp=sharing  The course I am hypothetically developing is on Developing a Climate Friendly Identity. I prefer a mixture of both synchronous and asynchronous instruction. I think that both are necessary for a quality educational experiences. I also think, based on our readings, there is room to parse what is meant by sync/async a bit further. Because in our   Theory and Practice   textbook the distinction is based on time and place vs time and pace, whereas in the   Sync/Async Balancing Act   article (2007) the simpler definition that I am more familiar with seems to be the accepted term. The major difference being a course in which the teacher is engaged and running things vs the students are entirely in charge of the experience and there is no set time frame (not even a term/semester/school year). A course that you would sign up for through one of the learning platforms we ...

A Review of Instructional Platforms: Coursera and Khan Academy

VS The prompt this week is to review two instructional platforms from a suggested list (or select our own). I have chosen Coursera and Khan Academy for my review. These websites each have different goals, audiences, and methods of going about accomplishing those things. Below I will provide a brief blurb on each site pulled from their respective Wikipedia articles. I will give my initial impressions and a personal anecdote of experience with each. I will then rank each site in three categories;  1. ease of use for a person in my identity and with my skillset  2. what I feel are the top two strengths of each website through the instructional design lens at my current understanding level  3. a suggestion apiece for how I could see these sites used in a guided learning experience through the lens of the petal learning through topic exploration method I outlined in my podcast episode below. (I know, exhausting to site myself, but this is my blog and I'm curious if it h...
